Paul Abro

Paul Abro was born in Cape Town. He is the youngest of a medical and musically influenced family. At the age of six, Paul began taking guitar lessons. After two years of classical training, he turned his attention towards songwriting. Abro played in several bands throughout his youth. At the age of 17, he took a break from music in order to focus on a university degree. He completed his studies in the US. After 10 years in Philadelphia, he returned home to Cape Town. Having completed his education, he was now able to focus on his passion - music. It wasn't until some years later, when he was invited to join a local band, that he felt the need to reconnect with his songwriting abilities. In 2004, his debut CD 'Songs from the Small Settee' was released and received airplay locally and overseas, on the American College Radio circuit. His debut was so well received, that Paul was inspired to work on his follow up release. Older and wiser - he took his second project to another level. Paul Abro's latest CD 'Another Way Of Being' encompasses an incredible collection of well written material. Through his lyrics and melodies, Abro's songs capture the spirit of hope, confusion, change and joy - all while weaving the genres of Jazz, Pop and Adult Contemporary together - in his own masterful way. His style of songwriting is complex in it's structure, yet simple and pure. Among some of Abro's song writing influences are: Nick Drake, Van Morrison, James Taylor, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon. Paul Abro's sound and vocals are rather unique and distinct. Although he says he prefers not to be compared to others, he has been compared to the likes of Jack Johnson and Michael Franks.
