Version: Yahoo Desktop Search beta
"Potentially Great But Beta Has Some Bugs"
Pros: If you're looking for something to replace and improve upon Windows built-in search utility Yahoo Desktop Search is arguably your best bet. It not only handles an impressive variety of document, email and audio/video files but also system files such as "dll" and "exe". Additionally, web searches can be performed within the application. The integrated image viewer and media player are infinitely useful for anyone who stores lots of digital images, music, video, presentations, office docs, PDF's, and the like. While the primary purpose of such a program is to quickly locate wanted files, the formerly impossible task of ferreting out and instantly deleting obsolete files scattered all over your PC is made easy as well. The UI is not as clean as Copernic or MSN but certainly adequate and functional. Once the initial indexing process has been completed, comprehensive search results are instantly generated as fast as you can type. Unlike some competing products, Yahoo Desktop Search indexes internal and external USB/Firewire drives. For those who want to fine tune the application there are plenty of configuration options.
Cons: Overall, this very good Beta program is well on it's way to excellence. I did however discover a few bugs that may or may not occur on any given PC. While indexing, a background process ("Text Extractor.exe") continually runs my (Pentium 4, HT 3.0 gig) CPU at an alarming 52%. What's more, this resource intensive process sometimes continues to run after indexing has completed and must be manually terminated in Windows Task Manager. Yahoo Desktop Search integrates the ability to print documents, images, etc., however there are no scaling options. For example, a digital photo is properly displayed in the image viewer but only a portion of the image is printed.

Version: Yahoo Desktop Search beta
Pros: Free.............
Found files very quickly
Cons: Firstly the download was supposed to be 7.48mb.I checked my programme/files it was 3 x that.I kept on getting a reminder off my TrendMicro Antispyware that Yahoo was adding to my registry .It added 22 items to my registry in 10 minutes.I deleted Yahoo Desktop search from my pc.Windows didnt advise me it had been removed, but Yahoo themselves( I didnt trust yahoo).I then went to Programme/files and there it was.So I had to remove it manually.
I then did a search for yahoo files and I found quite a few and had to delete them all manually. My system was slower.Luckily I did a system restore point just before I downloaded the damn thing.I then did a system restore and now I am up and running normally with the added entries gone from my pc.
Thats the first Beta programme I have ever tried, and it WILL be my last! I usually wait until the beta testing has finished.
No Beta for me.The same goes for IE7 beta, no way am I downloading that either.

Version: Yahoo Desktop Search beta
Pros: This is the same app as X1 desktop search tool except it doesn't search every type of Outlook data or index network drives. The speed at which it initially indexed both my HDs was surprising. Also, you can select any drive, folder, and subfolder and specify any file you choose. Impressive.
Cons: Not as fast as Copernic or MSN Desktop Search, but very, very good.

Version: Yahoo Desktop Search beta
Pros: first ill just say my specs.
AMD 3200+, 1gb RAM, Windows XP (thats all you need to know)
ok, well basically, search through contacts, narrow down your searhces, email search very quick, general searches, save as function, music and file search options, ability to send them via emails, sample searching and more
Cons: it is kind of slow indexing in comparison to google desktop and msn desktop..but its far better..and if you have a mid range computer like me, you dont even notice its working anyways.
