The sequel to Need for Speed Underground has big shoes to fill, and it does so admirably, with vastly improved graphics, new gameplay modes, and an improved interface. The demo also pushes beyond the scope of the original, offering a "free roam" mode to explore the cityscape and challenge competitors at will, two types of "quick races" on two different tracks, and the ability to race other drivers online.
The graphics are the most obvious improvement. We only can describe them as truly awesome, even on lower settings. Lights on the bridge sparkle in the night sky, and mannequins in store windows catch your eye as you blaze past. Little things, such as pumping your hydraulics and bouncing down the avenue, make the experience even more fun. Racing is arcade style (it's awfully hard to destroy your car) and easy to learn, yet power drifting is an acquired skill that keeps the learning curve gradual, but long. The only knocks on this top-notch driving game are the ubiquitous product placements (a Cingular messaging system?), high system requirements, and large download size. Considering the depth and quality of Need for Speed Underground 2, though, most gamers can forgive those details.

"Another great game in the NFS series..."
Pros: A lot of cool cars, detailed scenery, & pretty good graphics. The cars handle well, and the FX is great.
Cons: No cops/pursuit modes.

"Great game, but gets old fast"
Pros: Great graphics.
Great soundtrack.
Best "underground"-type racing game to date.
A lot of awesome cars and upgrades.
Scenery is beautiful, they really cover Los Angeles very well. Huge map.
Cons: Game gets quite repetitive after a little while.
Last few races in game are very difficult.
AI is pretty stupid, even in the final race.

"a masterpeice in racing simulation!"
Pros: Need for speed underground is the pinnacle of all racing games on the p.c
the graphics are excellent and dont require you to have a top end card,i first ran this with a radeon 9250,which it ran ok on,now i have a geforce 6600gt and it rocks
the carrer mode is brilliant,i like the way you can drive around the city and slip into mini games, and by tweaking the graphics options you can get this looking pretty good
ive also played this on the ps2,but comapred to the p.c version its a non-starter,the ps2 version looks slow and distorted, while the p.c version is clear and runs smooth
you will normally find that with most p.c games, they are far better than any console equivelent
electronic arts should be proud of themselves for a masterpeice in computer games, this will enter the hall of fame of computer games,up there with fear,doom3,quake and far cry
well done E.A
Cons: the higher video settings look shabby if your card dosent support it,to use higher video settings you need a geforce 6600/6800 or higher or a radeon x800 or higher

Version: Need for Speed Underground 2
"They should have kept this Undergound"
Pros: The game has nice GFX, sound and music is OK. The free raoming option is also a nice addition. But it just doesn't feel any different than part 1...
Cons: It's more from the same. Seen that, been there... Spare yourself the trouble and keep playing NFSU 1.
