- "A full-blown multimedia powerhouse"
Boasting an attractive interface and an extensive feature set, J. River Media Center leads the pack of media browsers. The installation takes some time, but it's time well spent.
The program's appeal is apparent even during installation, when you can select from six program skins. Moreover, you can choose a small or a large interface, depending on how much space you'd like the program to occupy on your desktop. Upon launch, it automatically ferrets out media files on your PC and lets you preview details such as resolution, production date, and size. Toggling full-screen views or starting a comprehensive slide show is a mere click away. We were impressed with the program's ability to browse all sorts of media, including photos, videos, and audio files, without relying on external players.
Some of the apps many powers include the ability to burn, rip, and play CDs; to generate playlists; to record sound; to create disc labels; and support and synchronization options for external devices like iPods. To boot, the program even comes with a TV tuner. Media junkies with high standards will wonder how they did without J. River Media Center for so long.

Version: J. River Media Center 12.0.534
Pros: Looks nice, well featured, great for secure ripping.
Cons: Crashes frequently, and may occasionally corrupt media files. (Not often.)
Summary: Crashes at the worst possible time, such as during a rip or in the middle of a long tagging operation. I've seen it corrupt a few media files when this happened--and not just the tags. (This has only happened a few times though, and I was able to ... read more >>

Version: J. River Media Center 12.0.534
"Would Need Two Promotions to Get to Be "Buggy Garbage""
Pros: Has a decent name, I guess. Though actually, it's generic and conflicts with a flavor of Windows. So I guess that knocks out all the "Pros".
Cons: Buggy.
Litters the system with files and registry entries all over the place (which remain after "uninstall").
No support.
Rudeness at every turn in the MC forums. Toe the line and put a smile on or be shouted down, belittled, and censored.Summary: Looks nice, but sucks. Avoid.

"As comlex or easy as you, the user, want. Great"
Pros: all features you'd expect and more
Fast and easy to work with, especially if you have a fairly large library.
beats WMP or Winamp, Mediamonkey or BSPlayer, hands tied behind its back.Cons: Onl.y one I can think of, if I have to be honest:: it does not rip to mp3pro format..
But then, If you want that, use Nero or Magix.Summary: The Best

Version: J. River Media Center 12.0.534
"The most advanced-innovative-best media player period"
Pros: Very good for large music collations. Very neat media server w/ zones. Play music throughout your home. I use this mostly for music though I'm not setup for TV, video yet. I actually like supporting a small innovator that runs circles around iTunes.
Cons: It isn't their fault. No support for music transfer to iPhone. iPod yes but not iPhone. There may be too much goodness (i.e., it organizes everything.) I only use for music but it also does TV, video, digital pictures, etc.
Summary: If you don't want to suffer from the corporate control that is pushed on you by iTunes, if you want an intelligent, well thought through and cleverly designed applications that allows you to organize, controll your digital media collection, this pro... read more >>

Version: J. River Media Center 12.0.534
Pros: Customizable to a great extent.
Fully customizable appearance
Supports all audio formats and most for video.
Exceptional funtionality.
Supports podcasts and has it's own media server and all sorts of things you can do with it.Cons: Can not play every single video format out there unlike VLC.
Though the interface and jukebox functionality takes it far ahead.Summary: If J. River can tune this up just a little bit by listening to their users suggestions this program will go far. Right now it's way better than Windows Media Player and iTunes. Once it supports all the video formats or has a function to download cod... read more >>
