- "A full-blown multimedia powerhouse"
Boasting an attractive interface and an extensive feature set, J. River Media Center leads the pack of media browsers. The installation takes some time, but it's time well spent.
The program's appeal is apparent even during installation, when you can select from six program skins. Moreover, you can choose a small or a large interface, depending on how much space you'd like the program to occupy on your desktop. Upon launch, it automatically ferrets out media files on your PC and lets you preview details such as resolution, production date, and size. Toggling full-screen views or starting a comprehensive slide show is a mere click away. We were impressed with the program's ability to browse all sorts of media, including photos, videos, and audio files, without relying on external players.
Some of the apps many powers include the ability to burn, rip, and play CDs; to generate playlists; to record sound; to create disc labels; and support and synchronization options for external devices like iPods. To boot, the program even comes with a TV tuner. Media junkies with high standards will wonder how they did without J. River Media Center for so long.

Pros: Hard to first use, then outstandingly easy

Version: J. River Media Center 12.0.450
"Not as good as Mediaplayer 11"
Pros: Easy to setup and use but complicated to really get to know.
Cons: This software needs a serious update. It has been passed by many lengths by Media Player 11. The software also has a few bugs and i managed to crash the system 3 times during the setup phase.

"now claims to correct accidental deletion of ALL your files from your hard drive"
Pros: 500 versions!
Either software is not easy or these people are frankly incompetent.
They apparently just corrected a serious bug where the program would delete all your music from your hard drive!!
sheeeesh ... talk about dangerous software to download.
try mediamonkey.com instead.
mediamonkey.com is a tried and proven solution which does not try and resell the "improved" product year after year.
You could buy a NEW computer, rather than signing on to this comanies poorly disguised annual pay-again program.

Version: J. River Media Center 12.0.450
"Hard to first use, then outstandingly easy"
Pros: Everything! This program litterally handles EVERY type of media format out there. i no longer have to open certain files with certain programs, this handles them all.it also handles all my portable devices. PSP, IPOD, cell phone, MP3 players. if you got a device this will handle it.
They update their software every week or so and constantly add new features.
Theres a portable version of it that comes with the program.
skim through the online forum and you'll find out things that the program can do that you would never have thought of.
Cons: The problem everyone has with this is the high learning curve. once you get it it takes a little getting used to. but, everything in the program is customizable. you dont like it, change it.
other than the learning curve, i've gotten a few of my friends to buy it, so im all about it.
I dont get what people are saying about the censored posts. ive posted things there all the time that i didnt like, and nothing ever happened to them. i guess if you fling out cuss words and make fun of other people on it they will edit. same as any other forum.
