Internet Download Manager is a tool for increasing download speeds by up to 5 times, and for resuming, scheduling, and organizing downloads. The program will resume unfinished downloads due to network problems, or unexpected power outages. Internet Download Manager can connect to the Internet at a set time, download the files you want, then disconnect or even shut down your computer when it's done. The program features a full-fledged site grabber that downloads files that are specified with filters, for example, all pictures from a Web site, different parts of web sites, or complete web sites for offline browsing. The program supports HTTP, HTTPS, FTP and MMS protocols, and has an adaptive download accelerator for MP3 audio and MPEG video files. It integrates into Opera, Mozilla, Internet Explorer, Firefox, MSN, AOL, and into any application that uses FTP, or HTTP protocols. Internet Download Manager fully supports Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7.

Version 5.11 build 5 adds an FLV grabber that can be used to download videos from YouTube, Google Video, MySpaceTV, and other popular sites.

"Gracefully become a power downloader"

Don't let the dull name fool you: Internet Download Manager is a full-featured package that handles downloading tasks with aplomb. It conveniently integrates into your browser, even if you use Mozilla or Opera.

It automatically sorts incoming files by file type and puts them in the appropriate folder. Most importantly, it supercharges download speeds (it doubled ours). Its windowed interface is clean and easy to understand. Power users can take advantage of the command line interface to resume file transfers, schedule downloads, connect through dial-up, or log on to password-protected sites. Experienced users also can limit the number of connections, the download speeds for specific sites, and even create an exception list to block specific, user-defined sites.

Other features include automatic virus checking and the ability to download all files linked to a page. The new version has a Web spider that can analyze a site and retrieve, for example, all the images on it.

Internet Download Manager strikes us as a natural choice for users in need of a trusty transfer tool. Version 5.11 build 5 added FLV grabber that can be used to download videos from YouTube, Google Video, MySpaceTV, and other popular sites.

"Awesome download manager"

Pros: After reading Chainmail2006's review I thought I would give this app a whirl. What an increase in speed! I went from about 300kbs a second which is very fast, to 995kbs! That's a 300 percent increase in download speed! I download a ton of software and IDM helps me do it fast. It downloaded the plugins in all my ,browsers,(Opera, Firefox, Netscape Navigater, and IE7), so no matter which browser I am using at the time of the download, IDM takes over! Try it free for 30 days and experience the increase in download speed!

Cons: Doesn't support Safari browser yet

"My opinion hasn't changed."

Pros: This is the best download manager I've ever had or seen. My DSL download speeds are now at over 900 KBS. Great organization of downloaded files. Resume and site grabbing capability, can be customized thru the interface to be made to work with almost all browsers and has built in safety. Also, very important is the great tech support by the company. This app is big time recommended.

Cons: None unless the fact that you have to buy it. But, it's well worth the investment if you download lots of files.

"Works fast and smooth."

Pros: IDM is very easy to operate. you can change the destination of your download easily and you can see the progress of your download on your screen. when the process ends you can open the file without searching for it's location.
