    Version: Calendar Creator 12.0

    "Very slow on earlier computers."

by AudioMaximus on November 29, 2005

Pros: Nice compliment of templates for just about any project. A very large selection of included photos, drawings & artwork. I very much liked the little square holiday artwork that could be inserted into the date blocks on a monthly calendar project, or your own photos for that matter.

Cons: 1. This program is VERY slow loading up on an older computer. (I'm using a PII-400 with the program - plenty of RAM) Loading an un-finished calendar is very slow as well, especially on months where a lot of changes have been made, or I have inserted a lot of pictures with/without text.

    2. Using the Text tool only allows one line at a time - You can not enter a second line in the same instance. It also won't recoginize simple symbols, such as &.

    3. I could only do 2 or 3 months at a time, then I would have to re-start my computer or the program would freeze up - none of my other programs on this computer do this.

    4. Using your own photos must be first imported to the program into its own folders for use - Extra time wasting step.

    5. The included artwork CD can only be accessed within Deluxe Calendar Creator version 12 - You cannot extract or save any of the artwork from the CD for anything else.

    6. MAJOR WARNING! - If you use and like Download.com's recomended freeware program called "The Font Thing", installation of "Deluxe Calendar Creator v12" has caused "The Font Thing" to stop working properly. All installed fonts display properly, but when I select Browse, all of the fonts look the same, including the dings. The program will also not install fonts anymore - I get an error window. Un-installing "The Font Thing" and re-installing it (not all components could be removed) did not correct the problem either. I still have not gotten a fix for it. If you like "The Font Thing" a lot, stay away from "Deluxe Calendar Creator Version 12".

"Wow! I really didn't listen to the other reviewer, but..."

by dkocur on April 2, 2006

Pros: Plenty of graphics come bundled with the software.

Cons: I have a dual core AMD (a VERY fast machine) and Calendar Creator was STILL slow (when dealing with graphics). There is something seriously wrong with this application. With just three uses, it's impossible to fully analize an application, especially one with so many features, but one of those uses resulted in the application crashing, if that tells you anything. We wanted to upgrade from ver. 9, since my wife's files are already in Calendar Creator, but there's no way I'd run an app on my machine that behaved as poorly as this one did, let alone purchase it.

Pros: Who can tell? They lock it up so tight you can't get in.

Cons: All the lockouts. They prevent me from using the program unless I buy it. I thought this was a free trial?

"Broderbund is an impossible company to communicate with."

    by Shar1946 on December 18, 2007

Pros: There's nothing to like because no matter how deep I go trying to uninstall "an older version [9] of Calendar Creator," I can't get it off my computer. Version 12 will not install until version 9 is gone!

Cons: I have had several e-mail communications with someone named Cliff W. at Broderbund who doesn't seem to speak my lanuguage. They refuse to call me and talk me through this problem, so I've had to call upon my Computer Consultant several times just to figure out what Cliff is trying to have me do!

Version 9 of CC was "delicate," so maybe I was foolish to think an upgrade would be better. But evidently, I was wrong. I will never buy anything from this company again.
